The rapid localized temperature drop and the difference in thermal contraction rates create tensile forces at the boundary layer between the dirt and the substrate, making it easier to detach the dirt. Additionally, it utilizes the explosive sublimation (800 times the volume) that occurs when dry ice pellets change from solid at minus 79°C to gas, effectively peeling the dirt off the surface. Since it does not use water or cleaning agents, it is environmentally friendly and can be used for cleaning operations in a wide range of fields, including food factories, electrical products, and precision machinery.
